We have some big news to share. The folks from Google’s App Engine team are going to help us run a hackathon at the RPM shared space where Year One Labs is based.
Update: The registration for this event is live. Check out the FAQ for more details.
Cloud platforms like App Engine are the fuel behind many of today’s lean startups. The pay-as-you-go economics of clouds are unbeatable when you’re changing your business model daily; in Google’s case, the cloud is a Platform as a Service, which means you don’t even need to worry about managing virtual machines.
If you aren’t familiar with App Engine, Google has created a ton of documentation for it. But there’s no substitute for live bodies, so Google’s Sean Lynch, product manager for App Engine, is coming our cold city next month to spend a weekend helping Montreal’s developer community build applications on the platform.
We’re going to follow a format similar to the recent HackMtl event:
- Introductions at 8AM on the 22nd, and a presentation from the Google team
- A day of coding in teams of two, with breakfast and lunch
- End coding by 5PM, with judging of the resulting apps
- A party at RPM that evening for participants
As you might imagine, we’re thrilled that Google’s supporting this kind of thing, helping us make Montreal a great technology center and giving the local community a chance to meet the people and work with the tools that are redefining what it means to be a startup.
So save the date, and stay tuned for details and the Eventbrite registration page.
